PREAMBLE

La Caveja s.r.l., founded in 1997, has always strived to align with the concept of environmental respect by ensuring compliance with local legislative provisions. However, due to the ongoing climate emergency, the company has felt the need to draft an Environmental Policy model aimed at raising awareness among its stakeholders and formalizing its commitment as well as its improvement results related to its activities. Aware that companies play a key role in the transition towards an economy that is not only financially sustainable, La Caveja s.r.l. is determined to implement solutions aimed at creating a business model that ensures the long-term sustainability of the company while also being environmentally conscious. COMPANY COMMITMENT

This document outlines, in general terms, the measures and initiatives that La Caveja intends to adopt concerning environmental issues. The company considers environmental impacts a key area and, as a result, aims to reduce the effects on the environment caused by resource consumption, waste production, and other activities within the production chain, from procurement to distribution. In line with the United Nations 2030 Agenda, the company commits to acting in accordance with sustainable development goals, grounding its decisions in ESG corporate sustainability principles:

  • Reducing pollutant emissions;

  • Utilizing renewable energy sources;

  • Minimizing environmental impact;

  • Reducing water consumption (and other planetary resources);

  • Proper waste disposal;

  • Adopting circular economy solutions.

POLLUTANT EMISSIONS

La Caveja s.r.l. commits to continuous and monitored maintenance of its production equipment to maximize the performance of its cooking systems, thereby reducing waste and methane gas consumption.

RENEWABLE ENERGY

The company has adopted an innovation strategy based on purchasing a photovoltaic system. The consumption of non-renewable electricity will soon be significantly reduced by shifting to a fully renewable solar energy source.

A heat pump connected to a photovoltaic system is already in operation for heating production water.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

La Caveja relies on qualified suppliers, considering environmental impact criteria in its procurement selection whenever possible. Both primary and secondary packaging are fully recyclable, with secondary cardboard made of 80% recycled material.

The office utilizes a paper recycling system and minimizes paper usage, prioritizing digital documentation whenever possible.

No hazardous substances for employees or the environment are used during production phases.

A replacement of pest-control system lamps with energy-saving, lower environmental impact alternatives is planned.

An 18-month shelf life, efficient production and storage systems, and continuous inventory monitoring completely eliminate the risk of food waste.

WATER CONSUMPTION

The company minimizes water consumption within its production cycle. Potable water is used exclusively in the final product preparation phase, with precise measuring tools that prevent errors or waste. For cleaning and sanitization, company machinery is used to reduce water waste and detergent use to a minimum.

WASTE DISPOSAL

Corporate waste disposal is based almost entirely on the separate collection of recyclable materials, with weekly scheduled pickups. Non-recyclable waste is kept to a minimum, and the production of special or hazardous waste is nonexistent.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY

La Caveja s.r.l. is committed to aligning with circular economy principles by assessing the impacts and risks of its activities and orienting towards reuse and repairability principles for both equipment and other resources. This approach aligns with recycling principles, gradually phasing out virgin materials while increasing the use of secondary resources. Even raw materials undergo reintegration into the production cycle, with waste material recovery and reintroduction before the lamination phase. Continuous monitoring processes ensure performance optimization and waste reduction levels that distinguish La Caveja’s operations in the food industry.

CONCLUSIONS

La Caveja s.r.l. is committed to developing knowledge and expertise in sustainability, both environmentally and socially, involving not only suppliers and customers but also its employees in a widespread awareness process at all corporate levels. Innovation and sustainability will be prioritized among the key criteria in decision-making and corporate strategy to ensure the achievement of the quality and sustainability standards set by the company.
